Prefer Off Calendar

There is a difference between entering Prefer Off bids using List of Days and Range of Days.

Week List of Days

Prefer Off Friday, Saturday, Sunday

For Days of Week List (e.g. Prefer Off Friday, Saturday, Sunday), the priority order of the days in this bid is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With this bid the PBS Scheduler will attempt you to give you a block with as many Fridays off as possible, then Saturdays and then Sundays. You are telling the PBS Scheduler that having Fridays off is more important than having Saturdays off and Saturdays are more important than Sundays. It is possible that you will get 1, 2 or all 3 of these days off.

This bid is equivalent to entering 3 separate bids:

Prefer Off Friday

Prefer Off Saturday

Prefer Off Sunday

Range of Days

Prefer Off Friday Through Sunday

For this bid (e.g. Prefer Off Friday through Sunday), the priority is to have as many Friday through Sundays off as possible. The PBS Scheduler will attempt to give you a block with as many complete ranges (Fridays through Sundays) off as possible.

An underlined date indicates that you have a preawarded activity of some type on that date. Refer to your calendar, available on the Calendar tab for more information on the absence.

You can select dates or days of the week, but not both options at the same time. If you click on a date, and then click on a day of the week, the day of the week is selected and your date selections disappear.

Apply Time Range to Each Day

You can select a time range that you want to be off on each day.

The bid preference Prefer Off Wednesday Between 06:00 And 18:00 and Thursday Between 06:00 And 18:00 means that you want to be off between 6 am and 6 pm each Wednesday and Thursday. You could be awarded a pairing on one or both of these days as long as the pairings operate outside of this time range.

This bid is equivalent to entering 3 separate bids:

Prefer Off Wednesday Between 06:00 And 18:00

Prefer Off Thursday Between 06:00 And 18:00

Setting a time on each day does NOT describe the start and end times of the entire range, just the time you want off on each day within the range. You may be awarded pairings on dates within the range, as long as their check-in and check-out times are outside of the time window you selected.

Apply Time Range to Range

The bid preference Prefer Off Wednesday At 06:00 Through Friday At 18:00 means that you want to be off starting at 6am on Wednesday and ending at 6 pm on Friday.  This bid tells the PBS Scheduler to give you a block with as many as possible complete ranges (from Wednesday at 06:00 to Friday At 18:00) off.

Reverse Range Priority

Reverse Range Priority lets you identify which end of the range is most important to you.

To enter a range, you click on two dates or days. The PBS Bidder assumes that the earliest date or the first day of week you select is the start of the range, and the latest date or the second day of week you select is the end of the range. Reversing the range priority means that the end of the range is more important than the start.
